Tasting Notes:

Caramel, ripe banana and roasted apple on the nose. Soft, steady palate with the complexity of a vintage. Lingering taste with balanced complexity; an intriguing orchestra of flavours and spices on the palate.

Story of Sake:

Omachi rice is said to be the first variety to have been used to make sake. Futaho Omachi Tokubetsu Junmai-shu uses 100% omachi rice, the highest quality available, from the Takashima area in Okayama prefecture. This is then taken to Nara, said to be the birthplace of sake making in Japan, where local brewers use the traditions and techniques passed down to them to carefully brew the sake over the cold winter months. The sake is then bottled and stored underground in cold conditions for more than 30 months. After strict checks on maturity and taste, this sake is then released as a vintage each year.

Nara is a land-locked prefecture located in the centre of the Kinki region. Koryo-cho town is to the north-west of Nara, in the same valley that was home to Japan’s very first capital city, Heijo-kyo, some 1300 years ago. It is a region rich with temples and historical heritage sites, and is overlooked by the hills of Mount Yoshino.

Climate: The Nara climate is mostly warm, although Koryo-cho and the surrounding areas in the north-western valley part of the prefecture has a typical inland climate, with notable variations in temperature on both a daily and an annual basis.
