The UK Sushi Roll Championship 2012 was held as part of HYPER JAPAN Spring 2012, at Earls Court in London, on February 24-26 2012.
The Eat-Japan Sushi Awards is the UK’s biggest celebration of sushi, created with the aim of promoting the excellence of Japanese cuisine and food and drink products to people in the U.K. and beyond. It began as a public contest for original sushi recipes as The Original Sushi Competition (2001-2007). Since 2005 it has come to be recognised as the world’s leading sushi event. Between 2006 and 2009, the Eat-Japan World Sushi Awards was the only international competition to bring the world’s top sushi chefs together under one roof as the Seven Sushi Samurai in order to compete, armed with their most outstanding sushi creations, for a chance to be honoured as the champion of the international sushi circuit by being awarded the ‘Sushi of the Year’. In 2011, a brand new element was added to the Awards; the UK Sushi Roll Championship, in recognition of the growing popularity of maki sushi, or sushi rolls, in the UK.

Top Sushi Talent
Top sushi chefs, nominated for their outstanding skill and innovation, are invited to take part in the competition, a to serve freshly prepared sushi to ticket holders. Sushi chefs only have one rule to follow – the use of vinegared sushi rice – and apart from that are free to incorporate their own local and national flavours, styles and techniques to create the ultimate sushi.
Your Vote Decides
The SUSHI AWARDS are determined by the people who know the best – everyone who has eaten the entry sushi. Each year, the audience gets to taste each entry sushi and then vote for their favourite. We also have a celebrity judging panel, featuring top names in food including Henry Harris of Racine, Jun Tanaka of Pearl, and Mat Follas of The Wild Garlic and MasterChef winner 2009, who also get to have their say. The sushi chef with the most number of votes is crowned the winner, so there’s no way of winning without winning over the audience, too!
