Sushi Awards: Sushi of the Year
Sushi Awards 2012: UK Sushi Roll Championship
HYPER JAPAN Spring 2012, February 24-26 2012
The Sushi Awards returned for 2012, with the second ever UK Sushi Roll Championship. Ticket holders had the chance to taste five unique sushi creations from some of the very best sushi chefs in the country. This year, the winning sushi was Dragon Volcano from Chef Kok Haw Lee of London's Tsunami Restaurant, an explosive combination of tobiko, tempura flakes, spring onion and shredded chilli, with king prawn tempura, avocado and cucumber. It was finished with a distinctive carrot, onion and mayonnaise sauce. The stunning presentation, complete with dry ice, made Dragon Volcano the stand-out sushi in this year's amazing line-up.

The UK Sushi Roll Championship 2012 was held as part of HYPER JAPAN Spring 2012, at Earls Court in London, on February 24-26 2012.
About the Sushi Awards
Since 2001, the Eat-Japan Sushi Awards have continued to deliver the most exciting and exotic in sushi innovation. Be the chief ingredient salmon roe or reindeer, grilled eel or foie gras, there has been no shortage of new and alternative takes on the conventional sushi form. Held at exclusive locations across London, often attended by celebrities and always open to the public, the event is contested by restaurants and their chefs from all over the world.

The chefs are completely free to incorporate their own flavours, styles and techniques to create the ultimate sushi in the unique culinary challenge.
The winning sushi is determined by the public. Each year, the audience get to taste each sushi innovation and then vote for their favourite. The sushi chef with the most number of votes is then crowned the champion, and awarded the accolade of Sushi of the Year, a prize there’s no way of winning without winning over the audience, too!
