Sushi Awards: Sushi of the Year
Sponsored by Kikkoman and S&B, the UK Sushi Roll Championship returned for a second year at HYPER JAPAN Spring 2012, with five Japanese restaurants in the UK battling it out to win Sushi of the Year. The grand prize was taken by Chef Kok Haw Lee of Tsunami Restaurant with his explosive entry, Dragon Volcano.
The full line-up of chefs in the competition was as follows:
- Matsuri St. James's: Nobuyuki Yamaguchi/Sushi Chef
- SO Restaurant: Tomokazu Matsuya/Head Sushi Chef
- Tsunami: Kok Haw Lee/Tsunami
- Tsuru: Qiang Xia Zhi/Lead Sushi Chef
- Yashin: Masaki Nishioka/Sous Chef

It was the tasting public who had the final say - after trying a piece of each sushi, tasters voted for their favourite and the winner was announced on the final day of HYPER JAPAN, 26th February 2012.
